Urgency to design with A11y in mind

Recently I encountered the opinion that accessible design ISN'T 'valuable' and I remember I got silence as I did not have facts I could prove the opposite.
Then I notice how my dad, who is not disabled or very old ( 57 ), interact with digital products and how he is using glasses to magnify UI to use it. I started to wonder why designing with accessibility in mind is not practised that often? Why even learning about a11y ( aka accessibility ) is the thing you enter as a bonus subject that needs to be mentioned, but not that important to learn or practised enough?
I do think that every digital product must meet at least a minimum of a11y requirements and that is going to become a success trick for any type of business!
This article perfectly outlines why now I talk about this and to start the discussion I want to remind you that "Globally, the population aged 65 and over is growing faster than all other age groups."

What are your thoughts?
